News: American Chad Hedrick shattered the world record in the 5,000 meters Sunday, finishing in 6 minutes, 9.68 seconds in the first long track speedskating World Cup event of the season.
Hedrick, from Spring, Texas, broke the mark of 6:14.66 set by Jochem Uytdehaage of the Netherlands in the 2002 Olympics.
