News: Dario Moreno, a political science professor at Florida International University, said Diaz deserves credit for attracting investment and development, reforming the police department, hiring competent managers and pushing for splashy events such as the Latin Grammys and MTV Music Awards.
'Manny has really changed the image of the city,' Moreno said.
Yet for some people in Miami's poorer neighborhoods life is only marginally better. With real estate prices rising dramatically, many of those people face rising rents and little chance of ever owning a home.
One of Diaz's opponents, radio personality Enrique Santos, said gentrification of many neighborhoods threatens to make the problem even worse.
